WHY MEDIA LITERACY

Media literacy isn't optional anymore—it's survival skills for the information age. Every day, students encounter a flood of ads disguised as content, algorithms curating biased feeds, deepfakes blurring reality, and viral propaganda exploiting racial stereotypes and community divisions. Without media literacy, children become passive consumers of whatever Big Tech, advertisers, and political operatives serve them. With it, they become discerning thinkers who question, analyze, and act.

The stakes have never been higher. A 2025 study found 68% of teens can't distinguish sponsored content from real posts, and misinformation spreads 6x faster on platforms targeting Black and brown communities. Schools mandating media literacy aren't just keeping up with trends—they're protecting students' ability to participate in democracy, recognize manipulation, and build healthy identities free from harmful media stereotypes.

Mind Over Media proves it works. Our programs don't just teach definitions—they equip students to decode real media they actually consume, from TikTok challenges to election ads to "influencer" culture. The result? Students who spot bias, challenge stereotypes, verify sources, and think independently in a world designed to capture their attention.
